As a leading country in the implementation of sustainable development, Finland has the opportunity and obligation to identify the problems relating to the current concept of wellbeing.

The Finnish Expert Panel for Sustainable Development proposes a dual strategy for the sustainability transition in which the central government must improve the conditions for citizens’ wellbeing both by promoting sustainable practices and livelihoods and by systematically reducing the structures and operating methods that exceed the Earth’s carrying capacity. In addition, central government must invest in basic public services, education, culture, and active civic participation in the long term.
